Anyone who thinks making your own ice cream will save you money over buying some from your local supermarket is seriously being mislead. Homemade ice cream is expensive to make, but if you truly love ice cream, it is worth every penny. It is like a fine wine. You get what you pay for. This little machine makes PERFECT ice cream. I did not use the mix, but we made real ice cream on the Fourth of July from an old family recipe. Yes, the machine is noisy, but so were the hand-cranked machines I remember from my childhood. You just plug this machine in, set the ice and rock salt and sit back and sip some ice tea while this little machine works it's magic. I have tried this twice now in the last few days, and unlike some of the other reviewers, our machine shut off without fail both times. I think the others were a bit too anxious to sneak a taste. The machine is easy to use, and easy to clean. It is a bargain at this price, and well worth it. The ice cream is perfect. Our ice cream has only 3 ingredients - heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla.

I got this for my birthday yesterday and I love it already! Fill can with the ice cream mixture and then pack with ice and rock salt in the bucket. Plug it in (keep adding ice and rock salt every little bit). It runs for about 45 minutes. Take the dasher out scraping off the ice cream, put the top on it, cover with more ice, then newspaper and a towel and you'll have a delicious frozen treat in 2 - 3 hours! I think it's great! Takes me back to my childhood, even the loud noise of the motor! Doesn't bother me, but then again, I'm an ice cream addict!

I received the Rival ice cream maker as a special gift for X-mas from my son. He and everyone else knows that I am a complete ice cream fanatic. However, I either misplaced or did not receive instructions with this product. Feeling guilty, as he splurged on this gift and I still have been unable to try it out. He is 18 years old but was financially "strapped" at the time. Also, I would love to try it out as I am at my wits end when I run out of ice cream and all the rave reviews I have read here are making me even more curious about this delicious-sounding ice cream! Mmmmmm, Mmmmmmm good is what I am sure I will be saying if someone would be kind enough to send me the complete instructions so that I can (finally) begin to use my ice cream maker! My son purchased the rock salt and ice cream mix and I have a bag of ice (im)patiently waiting for just this purpose in my freezer. So..any and all help would be greatly appreciated. And as I ALWAYS say...I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM....we ALL scream

I have never made ice cream before, nor did I know much about it. My first batch (I did not use the pre-bagged stuff) was awesome, although it did take longer than the directions said. A bit of freezing and the taste couldn't be beat - and I used skim milk, evap skim-whole milk rather than cream, etc! Once you get the hang of adding enough rock salt and ice, and as long as you ignore noise, this machine is great! I've used it about 5 times and each recipe I've used (I found them on the web, and one on the box) turned out great! YUMMY and delicious and cheap, too! ENJOY! Lisa
I would like to give it a good review
